Original sealed box of 40 Winchester propellant charges for the U.S. military Sub-Caliber Mortar Trainer Device 3-F-8A. These specialized .22 caliber blanks were produced by Winchester Repeating Arms (Olin Industries) in New Haven, Connecticut for low-cost, short-range mortar crew training on 60mm, 81mm, and 4.2-inch systems. Developed in the early 1950s by the Office of Naval Research Special Devices Center, the 3-F-8 series allowed realistic mortar practice without full-power ammunition or large impact areas.
